Global SE Field Experience begins

Almost a year ago, four Wooster students dared to dream. As part of the Social Entrepreneurship program, for the first time in the history of an undergraduate liberal arts college, students wrote a business plan to start their own seminar married to an international consulting program. On the strength of the plan, modest start-up funding came from the Smuckers Fund for Global Ethics and Hewlett Mellon Fund.Global SE Students

Now, with administrative support provided by the Director of SE, the Director of Off Campus Studies at Wooster, and numerous well wishers, seven students are about to embark on a journey. After an intensive semester of self- study and preparation in a seminar, the students will work in Bangalore, India with two innovative and internationally recognized entrepreneurial non-profit organizations: Dream and Dream and Enable India on three projects. The students will be supported locally by Experiential Travels, Centre for Social Initiatives and Management, and Indian alumni in Bangalore, as they understand SE in the unique local context.

The energy level amongst students is high. Benjamin Bestor, a Junior International Relations major says, “I believe this trip will provide me with invaluable experience in a cross-cultural, foreign working environment, something which will translate well with my major and my own personal interests.”
