The Akaa Project has secured $5,500 for the construction of the school and community water well for the area of Asiafo Amanfro (in the Akaa community). The amount includes a $5,000 grant from the IPA Foundation and $500 from the Yilo Krobo District Assembly (Akaa lies in the Yilo Krobo District in the Eastern Region of Ghana). The estimate for a borehole well with a hand pump from the Chewawa Company is $8,500. This 
company works under the District Assembly and are therefore reliable and accountable. Chewawa will also be installing pipes in order for the water to be easily accessible from multiple locations in the community. The water well will give clean water to 400+ community members and over 128 children. The community currently receives all water from a small stream, which is often dried up during several months throughout the year. Furthermore, the community lacks any access to clean water. The lack of clean water makes children and families more vulnerable to disease, parasitic infection and typhoid fever. Drinking contaminated water often leads to diarrhea, marked illness, dehydration, and malnutrition. The construction of the well needs to start immediately, before the dry season. The Akaa Project is looking for the remaining funds of $3,000.
