The challenges of working with a visionary

By Ben Bestor

For one to fully understand Shanti Raghavan, one would need to meet her. Suffice it to say that she performs above and beyond the rate of the average human being. Her brain functions at a much higher speed than most: she is a cable modem while the average person is dial-up. She is a smart, driven and extremely accomplished woman. The biggest challange was that she was moving always one step ahead of us.

For example, an idea relevant to our team’s work brought up during a meeting would spur her imagination. She would push past the idea at hand and expand it to some other aspect of EnAble India. Such is a difficulty of working with a visionary. I find her to be an inspiring individual. Not only did she cofound EnAble India with her husband, Dipesh, but she has also worked tirelessly for over a decade pro bono. Surely, that is real dedication. She sees things that others cannot see. She sets her mind to something and is driven to accomplish it. She is highly respected by the entire Bangalore nonprofit community. And why shouldn’t she? After all, she is an Ashoka Fellow. The best others can do then is to try to keep up with visionaries’ pace. Visionaries set the pace. We mortals try to keep-up.
